About Me
After working the front desk at Gold’s Gym for many years, Sue was looking for a new challenge. Her husband at the time had started CrossFit and the curiosity of “why does he go to this place so much” kept roaming in her head. Sue stepped foot in the CrossFit gym herself and, since 2013, hasn’t looked back! Having always had a foot in sports from soccer to gymnastics to cheerleading, she loved the feeling of accomplishing something and the workouts she experienced gave her that same feeling. Being a teacher for the past 18 years, Sue has always had a passion in helping her students finally get a skill or help them see success. That certainly carries over as a coach where she gets to help, teach, correct and encourage athletes to have those “ah ha” moments. When she’s not at the gym or classroom she spends most of her time with her two kids watching them participate in ALL of the sports that they enjoy and spending time with friends at her beach house in Narragansett.
My Coaching Style & Philosophy
I like to take a whole body approach. I feel, yes many people come to the gym to get in shape but I also think a huge component is the mental health side of it. Becuase of this belief I focus on your overall growth — not just hitting targets. I believe in developing the whole person — skills, mindset, and well-being. I want people to feel comfortable and look forward to coming to the gym.
My Journey & Overcoming Challenges
Excepting how I look or how much I can or cannot lift has always been a challenge for me. This is somehting I have worked on for many years. I know how it feels to compare yourself to others or not be happy with yourself. I am still a work in progress but I have many tools to help clients wrap their heads around these feelings and can emphasize with how they are feeling
Special Focus Areas
I think the mental aspect and helping poeple find time becuase it is something I have dealt with.
Member Impact
My favorite memory is when a client first came and he didn't think he would be able to do all the movements because he was 'out of shape and old." He kept showing up and he ended upm losing 40 lbs and was dreading running a mile but crushed it.
